She made a lot of her own food. And was proud of it. Now, while it was good, we didn't need her to keep reminding us of it. I disappeared to do some work for half an hour. Returning she was still yapping away about trip advisor reviews etc.
We where glad to get out at 10ish and hire some bikes. Dressed in wet weather gear we hoped as we headed down hill towards the rainforest the weather would improve. If did not.
This route is known for the many waterfalls.
There was only one tunnel we needed to bike through. One way, un lite & about 200m in a straight length. Clare was leading the group of 5. As we got to the centre of the tunnel it was black as. We could not easily see the person infront. You just had to focus on their silhouette from the exit of tunnel.
Then suddenly for no reason it appeared Clare lost control veering into the tunnel center onto ground. Although no vehicles where behind us it was not a safe place to stop. Asking if Clare was ok to walk she said yes. Slowly we all exited the tunnel to asses the injury.
Clare's face, intact. Slight grazes on knees & elbows. The worst was on her palms which took force of landing. We sorted out the first aid and patched her up to troop on.
The bikes handlebars had rotated but looked ok. My jacket she was wearing was a little ripped. Better that, than her!
The following tunnels all had paths around them for bikers. Proceeding on we made it in the rain to a ripper of a waterfall, Pailón del Diablo (Devil’s Cauldron).
By this point Clare & I had had enough. We where not going to make it to Amazon & returned via bus to Banos to warm up.
In the evening we chose this as our last night meal together. There was a small chance I would be climbing to 6000mosl on mount Cotopaxi. Might, as the climbing company needed to find a 2nd person to bring price down. Weather was also not fantastic.
Going to a French restaurant, it was apparently one of the best eateries in town. I had a Moroccan Chicken dish, Clare steak. Both fantastic, especially with too much red wine.
