Returning to the bus station in the morning I was not expecting a hug from the ticket officier. But a ticket would have been nice. Nope, waved to one side. Deciding that it was a long distance bus ride where a ticket was purchased from the driver I left her alone.
So when it came to catching the bus I held out 200Rup (~10USD) to the driver. No change. Now your not telling me I somehow hit the fare value right? There was no sitting spaces left, so I figured it was a bribe, slipping into his pocket. After an hour my bum was on a seat. We passed through villages that history passed by. Churches derelict from the soviet religious purge. Now taken over by nature. The metal frames of their five onion domes somehow still lay on a roof twisted and forgotten.
Successfully arrived at midday at Yaroslavl. The center has a great mixture of architecture, religion & trees. Add to that a drop of water, the Volga River winding through and you have my recommended Trans-Siberian stop over. OK it may have helped that there was blue sky throughout! This was also the first Russian tourist spot where it was
easy to rent a bike. Or even Rollerblades!
