Day 9.
23/04/08

Koh Phi Phi (koh meaning island) was a couple of hours from Phuket Town by Ferry. There I slashed my accommodation budget by yet another third by staying at the 'Rock Backpackers'. The name was ironic as I think the beds were as hard as a rock slab, albeit not as cold. Here was the first opportunity to drink (with the help of some of the other backpackers) the Pepper Vodka I was carrying around with me. Some of you may remember this as a prize received in HK some months prior (what for I hear you say). After I could take no more Pepper (of the cracked black pepper variety) Vodka I headed down to Reggae Bar for a Wet T-shirt Competition. The girls who volunteered did a great job entertaining the punters. It was a hard competition to judge and it was necessary to have several 'heats' to decide on the eventual winner A Karst viewed from the Ferry

Day 10. It only took one
24/04/08

The following evening started very much the same way, finishing off the remainder of the vodka. Then on going out I was introduced to cocktail buckets. Yes, why have glasses when you can drink from a bucket. Not only is it shatter proof and lighter, but it generally holds as much as a pitcher. All good strengths in my mind. After one bucket of long island ice tea we joined some people from the backpackers touting for the Reggae Bar. A lot of respect goes out to these guys as the 'water pourers' from the competition the night before. Free drinks were the payment for assisting selling the benefits to potential customers outside. The evening disappeared fast.

Day 11. Crazy Paddle
25/04/08

I woke up amazed. Amazed that:
1) I got back to my room, can't remember how
2) Only lost my thongs (flip flops for the non-Ozzies)
3) Did not have a hangover
The latter being so I was suddenly feeling that going kayaking was a good idea before it got to hot Phi Phi Cliff Faces

The karsts around the island were stunning. Shades of grey and orange cliff faces. Vegetation gripping onto them for dear life. Monkeys swinging from tree to tree (well I heard they were up there anyway). The sea had eroded the base of the karsts. What was left was a strange combination of shells kind of cemented together. Was this area once a seabed? Through the water coral and tropical fish could be seen. By the end I thought maybe the kayak would be the start of drinking less. The Gods must have been happy with me; this was the first day of complete sun, no tropical showers :-)

Day 12. Subtitled Steven Seagal Movies on the bus
26/04/08

Left by ferry with Roanna to Krabi and then caught a night bus to Bangkok.
