The most notable touristy thing in Potsdam is Sanssouci, which is the former summer palace of Freidrick the Great. The name means 'without sorrow', and you could easily see why. It was a huge area, with mostly park land, and then the actual palace itself, which is quite beautiful (again, the beautiful blue sky and warm weather didn’t hurt!). We also saw the old Dutch quarter of the city, which looks like Amsterdam (so we’re told, but we’ll see for ourselves soon!)
Antje also introduced us to her favourite German snack, the doner. Yes, you can get these all over the world, and I’ve never had one in its homeland of Turkey, but this doner was especially delicious. The combination of superb bread and juicy meat and mouth-watering sauces… Antje said that was one of the things she missed the most while in Australia!
All in all, we had a nice Sunday outside the bustling Berlin scene, and it was nice to spend some time with Antje before she had to go back to the Monday grind.
