Well, after what seems like a short lifetime of preparation we have finally packed up the house and set ourselves adrift in Bronwen. All our worldly possessions are now jammed into various nooks and crannies and other peoples houses, including the cats (thanks Andy/Lyndsey and Mum/Dad, hopefully they've settled into their new lives at opposite ends of the country by now).
We left the house on September 11th after a very hectic couple of weeks, both of us having our little stressed out moments as all those last minute bits and pieces slowly got done, and new ones cropped up. Bronwen has now got a new set of tyres (nice and knobbly, look good, no idea if they will last all the way round Africa or not). Claire's dad, Alan, visited while I was fitting them and seemed to enjoy watching me struggle and swear for a couple of days until they were all fitted.
Everything finally came right with the documentation - the Carnet de Passages and amended V5 arriving a few days before we left. We have now finished wending our merry but slow way from Brighton down to my parents in North Devon, via the New Forest (excellent Forestry Commission campsite and blackberries!), Charmouth (too many motorhomes), and Dartmoor - wet and grey, just as it should be and a bit of nostalgia before 12 months of new adventure.
We've had the last power shower, used the last clean toilet and lain on the last comfy sofa for a while, and into the blue yonder we go - See you in Spain!
We're leaving on the Plymouth - Santander ferry on Sunday 25th via a night in Tavistock at the campsite where my uncle lives (all this mobile living - it must be in the genes...), then mainland Europe here we come and (hopefully) the start of some exciting blogs!
