After separating from Evren, we headed to Ankara for no other reason to secure a Kazakh visa. While we were hoping it would only take a day, we both new deep down it wouldn't. After a series of long and expensive taxi rides to reach the Kazakh embassy, we filled out all the necessary forms (including a letter requesting entry which went something like "We would be honored to visit your beautiful country so please accept our entry"). We were told to call back the next day to see if our visas would be reading. Waking up early to do so, we called only to be told the consulate was closed for the day. I could only assume that the only worker we say had a tennis date at the consulate, which literally had its own tennis court. From what I have heard, the US embassies are severally lacking in tennis courts. Hopefully this changes with a pro-tennis court President. Time will tell. Anyway, so we called the following day and finally were granted our visas. Feeling vindicated, we treated ourselves to a 30 hour train ride to Kars in Eastern Turkey. We met an interesting (and really creepy) Turk named Alp on the train which made for an exciting trip as we constantly tried to avoid the only other passenger on the train for 30 hours. Having arrived in Kars, we made our way to our hotel ready for a new adventure on our way to Georgia the next day.
