So we arrived in Izmir after another long bus ride. I think we are getting pretty good at dealing with these kind of trips and the fantastic Turkish bus system sure makes it even easier. The only trouble we had was finding the right bus, which was only difficult because our bus was delayed close to an hour. When we arrived in Izmir, we were greeted by Evren's Aunt and escorted to a restaurant for a fine Turkish breakfast. The rest of our time in Izmir was spent enjoying the company of the ever gracious Onats who treated us to wonderful meals (mmmmm, stuffed peppers) and a game of hearts (Russell won, I think, after Evren's Uncle forfeited due to our lackadaisical play).
Before heading onto Ankara, we made our way to Ephesus to catch another glimpse of some ancient Roman ruins. We were probably not as excited as we should have been, but it was cool to see nonetheless. I think at this point we have reached the maximum quota for ruins until at least China. Anyway, we spent the rest of the day after Ephesus in the Turkish resort town of Kusudasi where we enjoyed our finest sutlac yet. At the end of the day we seperated as Russ and I were headed to Ankara to pick up our Kazak visas while Evren returned to Izmir to attend a Turkish wedding and meet us in Bishkek.
