So, a day of lazing around in bed feeling sorry for myself. Thankfully the AP is mainly just that. This reminds me of both a previous job working in a notorious A&E dept in London and a book called House of God by Samuel Shem. The book is hilarious and full of similar acronyms, most famous of which is 'gomer' - get out of my E.R.! The book was written in the 1970s and is a medical intern -junior doctor in the UK - birds eye account of training and being terrorised by superiors who make Dr House in the Tv series look like a sweet old lady. Part of the reason the book has become such a cult classic satire is that apart from being aggressively funny, many aspects are based in fact and some say that concepts such as 'bounced' admissions originate from this book
The A&E board. I'm not sure whether acronyms are still allowed or at least, some of the less PC ones have been removed from the vocab. CP - chest pain. OD - overdose. RTA- road traffic accident. SOB - more politely, shortness of breath. Less politely, FLK - funny looking kid, or WP - worried parent. TATT - tired all the time. And everybody's ultra-nonfavourite, the one you all tried to dodge having to see AOBP - all over body pain. Argh.
Finally drag myself out of bed and out for some coffee before changing to the Regal Airport Hotel, as we have a very early flight tomorrow to fly to SanYa, in Hainan Island. By the way, avoid this hotel at all costs. Totally overpriced, bad service, smoky smelling rooms. Yes, it might be a short stroll into the airport and has a good gym but that's all it has going for it. Grumble grumble grumble!
