Where I stayed
Breakfast in the cafe downstairs.
Bern had best coffee east of the Pennines.
Her life is now complete.
Cruise on the canal In little boat that does go under the bridges but not by much.
Weather ridiculously fine, 22 degrees and slight breeze.
Terrific way to see the city with excellent commentary.
Early lunch in a little brassiere near the river and several shops that had a visit.
Visit to the Belfy, 91 meters of stairs and Medieval stones with a set of bells, mechanical clock and a fantastic view.
Gent is city of 3 towers and next one is St Bavo, a cathedral built over a couple of centuries with the most famous van Eyck painting north of the Peninnes the "Adoration of the Mystic Lamb".
The most ornate pulpit imaginable to man, all marble and Spanish oak and is so distracting you could't follow what was being said if you tried.
Incredible church with more side altars than you can point a stick at.
Although we suspect that the one with the vacuum cleaner in it wasn't to St Hoover.
Down to Castle of Gerald the Devil which over it's history appears to have been one of everything, seminary, armoury, school.
In Australia would be known as Castle of Bruce the Bastard.
Off to Brugge for the day tomorrow so Hannah can cross it off her "I must do list" .
No one else wants to go but what can you do.
