Today we took a day trip to Nara. Nara was the ancient capitol of Japan before Tokyo and Kyoto. It has many temples and shrines and a huge park. Aside from the temples and shrines it also has a tame herd of deer that wander around the city and park. The herd is a national treasure and are said to be messengers from the gods.

We both agree that Kyoto and Nara are some of the most beautiful cities we have ever seen. Nara in particular is extremely peaceful and well kept. The cherry blossoms are only beginning to blossom, but you can tell why the cherry blossom season in Japan is such a big deal.

We first walked to a Japanese garden which was free for foreign tourists. We then saw three different temples, one of which houses the Great Buddha! We saw many more things and had a great day.
