This past Sunday, Adam and I had the day off. Sarah and Joe were having supper at their place and asked if we would make a dessert. Since we both like baking, we agreed to make something. Apparently Japanese people don't do a lot of baking and have these tiny table top ovens that double as microwaves.

We decided to make a chocolate cake, but because the heating elements fold down on top of the baking dish, the top of the cake burnt before the middle was cooked. We figured we could salvage the cake by cutting off the burnt top, but the bottom turned out to be burnt as well. Then we decided to make the same batter over again, but as cupcakes. The cupcakes rose, and again the tops burnt.

We ended up saving the edible pieces and Adam turned out a delicious layered cake with whipping cream and strawberries. Sorry we didn't get a picture of the cake.

So far I am missing the Canadian ovens and warm tap water for hand washing. Apparently nobody seems to mind washing their hands in freezing cold water! haha
