Yesterday I had the great pleasure of delivering dresses that a few wonderful ladies from New Ulm, Minnesota had, out of pure love, made.

It is a unique story, just one demonstration of how God works in mysterious ways. It goes something like this:

My Great Grandma in New Ulm, unaware that I would be home for Christmas at the time, had met a few women from her parish who were making dresses and shorts for children out of pillowcases. Their main obstacle: finding someone to deliver these dresses to children who really needed them. She had mentioned I was in South Africa but didn't know how to get them to me. However, once word was out that I was in town, my Great Grandma volunteered me to bring some of these items back. (We were teasing her when she said she didn't need to come with to pick them up. I said "Oh no! You got me into this! haha) And let me tell you, after just setting foot on this woman's property I could sense that this was not just going to be a dress or two. Oh no.

These women were some of the most ecstatic and passionate people I have ever met. They couldn't stop talking about how excited they were to finally give these dresses and shorts away. After being with them for only 10 minutes talking with them and seeing these dresses and shorts they made, I couldn't help but take as many as possible. These woman spent hours just on one dress adding frills, buttons, ribbons, and so on. I couldn't believe how beautiful these dresses out of pillowcases were. They were beautiful. The whole process and the love they put into the clothes was beautiful.

Long story short, it was a good thing I had an empty suitcase to bring back because I ended up taking about 40 dresses and 15 pairs of boys' shorts.

This past Monday I went to Ben Sinuka Primary School in the New Brighton township. I met with a few teachers that were more than happy to help me find the kids in the school that needed the clothes the most. They went through every single dress and were ooh-ing and aaah-ing at how gorgeous they were; they wanted to know where their sizes were haha.

So then the next day I returned to meet the kids and to get some photos of them in their new dresses. When I got there they were already wearing the dresses, despite it being a chilly day, they couldn't wait to wear them and put them on over their school uniforms. When they came in the classroom to get their photos, they were all smiles.

It was such a blessing to be able to help these women distribute their dresses and shorts. This whole process demonstrates how much of a difference each one of us can make. I know they will be wearing these dresses and shorts for quite some time. These precious gifts spread a lot of love and kindness yesterday, we will never know the full impact.

Thank you to those women who shared their talent to bring smiles to these childrens' faces.
