It's been a quiet last few weeks, no exciting trips, just lots of work on my thesis. The master plan has changed yet again and now it looks like I'm going to be evaluating an intervention of the International Organization for Migration to increase Nicaraguan migrant student's academic success. The IOM set up peer-tutoring programs and teacher-education programs to cater to the migrants' needs, and my evaluation is asking whether increasing school success for this socially ostracized population has decreased xenophobic tendencies among Costa Rican students in the schools where the IOM intervened. I'm going to be looking at a big school of 2,00 students in an marginalized urban community outside the capital called Pavas and on Friday I went for the first meeting with the school directors and teachers.

Other news is that I'm going to be headed to Ecuador on March 4th to participate in a conference on the abolition of foreign military bases. The ACJ (YMCA) of Eucafor has taken a large role in organizing the conference and I'm meeting up with some people from the Y of Montreal to attend the conference in Quito. Traveling is always exciting and it'll be interesting to find out what kinds of activities the Y of Ecuador is associated with, and see a bit more or a politically active model of the organization. Should be interesting, I'll keep you all posted as to how it goes.

That's about it for news, aside from that I'm spending my time looking into jobs for next year and tanning at the pool across the street. Hopefully next time there will be more interesting news to share...
