Hello Readers & vicarious travellers
I thought I'd better put in another stint on the ol' blog (not that B gives me much opportunity as she's normally written up our activities before I'm even aware that she's started). I can't believe that B didn't even mention that I nearly died from a streaming man cold last week. Luckily I showed enormous strength of will to haul myself out of my sickbed to then lie down by the beach & read. With occasional frolicking in the sea. You'll be devastated to hear that I haven't got any more tales of genital interference to relate to you this time around. For those of you that are only interested in that kind of story, you may as well skip this entry of the blog.
There aren't many things to do, or look at, in Kuala Belait so it's been a relaxing few days here. Give me sunshine (copywrite Morecombe & Wise 1968) & a swimming pool & I'm happy. We have looked around a few shops here - the clothes tend toward the cheap & garish which, if it weren't for budgetary restrictions, would be tempting for future bad taste parties etc. DVD's are very cheap (hooky copies, of course) so we have bought some 'DVD9's - these are the higher quality copies with 'DVD5's being cheaper & more likely to have been recorded from the back of a cinema. The latter have extra features such as 'silhouette of man heading off to the toilet'. We've bought 15 films on 3 DVDs (ie 5 on each DVD) for just over a fiver - stupid bargain. I decided not to go too mad on DVDs as I doubt they'll have proper surround sound & I'd rather get kosher DVDs for showing on our cinema system (such a snob!)
Anyway, back to what I'm supposed to be talking about: our road trip to Miri in Sarawak (Malaysia). Jill thought we might enjoy the slightly more classy shopping experience across the border, plus it gives us another country to pinpoint on our blog, & one more stamp for our passport. It was only an hour or so drive & we headed straight for a shopping centre with 3 levels. Not much to report really apart from a ridiculously busy (& hideous) sculpture/shrine type thing you could buy that we guessed you might place in your garden. If you were blind/had no taste. After buying a few cheapy things, Jill treated us to lunch in the local Marriott Hotel (very nice), following which we returned to Brunei. All horribly exciting. Once the temperature had cooled a little we went for a walk on the beach behind Jill & Rod's house. After poking at some jellyfish (about 25cm diameter) that had been washed up on the shore we realised that the sun was setting rather beautifully. The sky was absolutely amazing with a fabulous range of shades in pink, orange & blue. Luckily we'd forgotten to bring the camera with us, otherwise we'd have another 50 zillion sunset photos clogging up the memory card. And then Becky got attacked by a pack of wolves. I'd better close this entry before you realise that the point of this entry was mainly to have another flag on the map of our travels.
Cheers
Q (& love from B who managed to fight of the wolves with a Samurai sword)
