On Saturday Maggie and I ventured out for another trip to the beach. It's still very warm in Japan and if it gets a very degrees cooler it will be perfect beach weather. After going to Akashi and exploring that beach last time, I convinced Maggie that we should go to the much closer Maiko Beach this time.
Maiko was wonderful! It was surprisingly clean (compared to the horror stories I've heard about Japanese beaches containing garbage, old TVs, etc.) The water was blue-green, the swimming area was netted off to keep jelly fish away, and the whole area was very resort like. There was a lot of grass and park area on the way to the beach and once there we were surrounded with lavish hotels or other trendy looking buildings.
We went on a very clear day and were able to see to the other side of the Awaji bridge. The view from the beach, right next to the bridge, was wonderful. Maggie and I laid out in the sun, read some magazines, and even met some local fisherman. Uh- just some city slickers from Osaka who came out to Maiko to try their luck at fishing. Still they had caught a relatively large fish and wanted to take the fish, and their new friends, to a nearby restaurant and ask them to cook it. I'm not sure that idea would fly at the restaurant so I kindly declined- multiple times- though I would have loved to see the chef's face upon their request.
