Our flight out of St. Louis is at noon today (we learned our lesson from our last winter escape and decided not to fly out of Springfield), so instead of getting up at 4 AM to drive to St. Louis, we decided to drive last night and stay the night. We looked at the place we stayed last time we were here (Sheraton), which was nice, but for some reason decided to mix things up and booked the Doubletree. We drove out, got our PF Changs fix, and checked in. It was going to be sooo nice to sleep in until 8:00 on our travel day instead of getting up at 4:00.
Until 3:50 AM, when the fire alarm at the Doubletree went off. Everyone had to walk down the un-lit stairs (we were on the eighth floor) with iPhone flashlights in hand. We all hung out in the lobby while the fire department came and checked everything out. One drunk guy was just getting back from the bars and, without being thrown off by the crowd of people in pajamas in the lobby, expressed his disappointment with me that the pool was closed. They determined that a tornado "in the area" had knocked out power lines and that was the cause for the alarm. We walked back up the un-lit stairs to our dark room and went back to sleep.
When we woke up at 8:00, all power was still off, and the bathroom was pitch black and the hot water was gone. Thankfully, the Doubletree offered to send guests to a neighboring hotel to use rooms and showers...the SHERATON! (the same one we stayed at before and almost stayed at this time) I guess if you find something that works, stick with it. Still, pretty impressed with the accommodations from both.
Now, properly showered and dressed, we're off to the airport. Let the next adventure begin!
