Contemporary Art Museum Peoria
It was a Saturday afternoon and my son and I had decided to go down to the Peoria riverfront to check the replica sailing ships on display. The replicas were of the Nina and Pinta that sailed across the ocean to discover the new world. After checking both vessels out, my son and I walked around the riverfront and noticed several sculptures that we both thought were very cool. The sculptures were done by Preston Jackson who is a local artist and does both sculpture and painting.
We were exploring and decided to go into the Peoria Contemporary Art Center on Water Street in downtown Peoria
His sculptures are so detailed and each one has its own distinct flavor that it is like putting a puzzle together to make a picture. Just to see the faces of his art and figure out their expressions was exciting. Many seemed to be anguished and he also used the same technique with animals in his sculptures. One of his sculptures is named the lady and the gator in which a woman who is dressed up in late 1800's and is walking an alligator on a leash.
Preston Jackson is a great artist and I would recommend checking out his work. He has several pieces on the riverfront and one of his newest pieces adorns the Peoria Civic Center arena on Jefferson Avenue.
My son and I both enjoyed the day and even got to see Preston Jackson in his studio working on some paintings. His studio and art gallery are not large, but if you get the chance and are down on the Peoria riverfront check out the Peoria Contemporary Art Center.
