From Wuhan I took a sleeper bus to Guilin. The bus was absolute luxury. Goldeneye was showing on plasma screens on the bus in English with Chinese subtitles. After that they showed The World is Not Enough. This however was dubbed into French with Chinese subtitles. No use to me.
From Guilin I took a mini bus the 90 minutes to the contryside town of Yangshuo. I loved this place from the moment I arrived. Small narrow cobbled streets with markets, restaurants and bars made up the small centre of town. The scenery around was like something from Lord of the Rings with huge hills and mounds sticking out of the ground for miles all around.
Met some cool people in Yangshou. Was hanging with 3 Swedish guys for the first few days then 3 Israeli girls, a German guy and an English girl after that. Went out mountain biking a few times. The area was perfect for bikes. Stopped off at Moon Hill one day and made the short trek to the peak there for amazing views. Took a bamboo raft another day for a few hours on the Li river to cruise down through the amazing scenery.
The nightlife in Yangshuo is a bit tame (like the rest of China) but we managed to make our own fun, mainly hanging out at the loove bar for a few 10 Yuan mojitos (less than 1 euro). Had a few good nights there with the Swedes and Israelis and Jo from England. Great place to spend my birthday!!
