Greetings from Copenhagen, Denmark! The flight was uneventful and we arrived on time. We get on our cruise tomorrow afternoon so we decided to come in a day early to see the sights of Copenhagen.

The first thing we do is get on a canal sightseeing tour. The tour takes us up and down the many canals of city. Our guide is a young kid, maybe 23 who does the tour in 3 languages: Danish, English and German.  The weather is surprisingly really warm, maybe 72 degrees and the people are laying out everywhere. Every green space is covered in people and the walls of the canals have people sitting and dangling their feet over the water. Beer and wine is allowed in the streets so couples are sharing a bottle of wine while enjoying the sunshine. The life!!

The amount of construction going on is impressive. There are building new bridges and converting old buildings into new dwellings. The city is a mixture of old and new architecture. There are some buildings dating back to the 17th century the are highly ornate and others that were built recently with glass walls and steel.   There was a pretty neat row of condos along one of the canals that were built from a torpedo manufacturing plant.  Many of the old buildings around the canals have a military history and were built to house the soldiers or to manufacturer weapons.

Copenhagen is incredibly biker friendly. The bike lanes are as wide as the vehicle lanes and its not uncommon to see 50 bikers waiting at an intersection to cross. Everyone bikes….old people, kids going to school, businessmen in suites and women in high heels. They have baskets on their bikes where they house their groceries, purse or even their small dogs!

After the canal tour we get some lunch at a local café and sit outside and people watch. Our sandwiches are delicious. Our next stop is Tivoli Gardens. It came highly recommended by Dad Crandall, so we make the 20 minute walk from the café.  Tivoli Gardens is right in the middle of the city and is surrounded by high walls and gates.  Tivoli has over 40 restaurants and 30 rides for both kids and adults. There are beautiful gardens and koi ponds throughout the park.  They also have a couple of stages were bands were playing or a show was being performed.  We didn't stay until dark but there were colorful lights everywhere so I can only imagine how beautiful the gardens are at night.

We walked about 45 minutes to our hotel and just crashed. We only slept a couple of hours last night on the plane, so we’re going to call this an early night.
