so...to tell the tale of this journey...to start off the last couple weeks have been nothing short of amazing...last entry was in coca, Ecuador and i was anxiously awaiting the boats departure down the rio napo...so...i caught the boat to a small town called nueva rocafuerte...got there with not a real clear idea if I would be able to make it to iquitos going this way or not...but turned out after a little probing around town i found myself a reliable local guy that had all the answers that i was look for...He let me string up my hammock on his front porch because there isn´t any hotels or restaurants there....spent the first night drink chuchuasku with the guy and his father and a few other locals...got good and loose and decided that I wasn´t going to catch the boat I had originally planned in order to embark on the next day fishing and camping trip into the jungle that I was invited to attend...So around mid day the next day, we headed out in his little canoe in search of the pirania...after about three hours of navigating through little side rivers we came across a series of laguanas in which we dropped a few nets and then headed to find a place to sleep...come upon an abandoned old shack a decided that would the the best place to sleep for the evening...not to say i got much sleep on rotting wood with no blanket surrounded by nothing but the unknown...So we arose at about 4:30 am to got ¨fishing.¨ At thins point it was my understanding that fishing meant a couple of nets and some poles but apparently thats not the way the locals do it...we pull around a bend and suddenly the boat slows...and everything is quite...I´m a bit confussed about what is happening because there is quite chatter between the other two fisherman followed by pointing and more chatting...So I mind my merry business and I notice one man light up a cigarette I figured they were just talking about where we should go and what not...then suddenly...BOOM...a sudden dash by the canoe and fish were floating everywhere...So we spent the next 6 hours parading the canals hunting for packs of piranas to blow to high heavens...only in the amazon...
