Lexington is home to the Washington-lee university, a very historic place, which was saved from bankruptcy by George Washington and when the Union troops entered town during the civil war, the university largley escapes the torch because of Washingtons statue on the roof. After the civil war General Lee became president of the university. Following lunch in the university grounds, Jo and I headed for Appomatox , which is where Lee surrendered to Grant . This place is a small village in the middle of nowhere, but is now part of the national park system. The village is preserved pretty much as it was back in the 1860's, complete with actors who are dressed appropriately for the 1860;s and tell of the surrender.
As we travelled back to Lexington, we took the scenic route along the Blueridge Parkway.
