DATE: July 9, 2008
LOCATION: East of Corinth, Mississippi
MILES TRAVELLED:
WHERE WE ARE STAYING: JP Coleman State park
WHAT IT COSTS AND INCLUDES: US$ 18.00
Yesterday morning we left a very nice free camp on the Natchez Trace and drove into Tupelo, where we stopped at Wal Mart for some groceries , a very large fan and a bike for Brent. We had previously brought one for Jo and now we wanted to get a matching one. After a successful shopping expedition we headed for Corinth, where we toured a civil war interpretive centre, then gave the bikes their inaugaral ride around the historic town. We meet some locals and even had a malt shake at an old time drug store, this particular store has been in the same family for 140 years, it was certainly like travelling back in time.
We weren't sure where we wanted to camp last evening, but after some discussion agreed upon JP Coleman State Park. While driving there we went over some pretty big bumps and before long I noticed a police car in the rear vision mirror, complete with flashing lights, pulling over I expected the worst, being stopped by a state trooper in the middle of nowhere, Mississippi - how bad could it get!!!!
I was summoned to the rear of the RV to discover my new, one day old bike had been dragging on the road for some miles and was badly damaged.
The police remained with flashing lights while we picked up the broken bike and tied it down extra well, all the time I felt like a real idiot and the flashing lights were calling attention to the fact.
As it turned out we got a beautiful waterfront site at the park and have decided to stay two nights, both Jo and I felt we needed some time to recover.
