WHERE WE ARE STAYING: Green Acres RV Park
WHAT IT COSTS AND INCLUDES: US$ 22
DEISEL PRICE: US$ 4.69
WHAT WE SAW: amazing Antebellum homes
OUR STORY:
We woke to beautiful clear New Orleans day, and were soon on the road-heading north. Although we took a wrong exit from the freeway, after a U-turn we were back on the right road and heading out of town
The drive out of town was on an elevated road, or bridge. The exact definition of the elevated road, or bridge merges somewhat down here. The "bridge" was 30 miles long, which saw us, skirt around Lake Pontchartrain. Today was also a first for passing another vehicle, to date we haven't found too many vehicles that are slower than us.
We decided to stop at St Francisville, a really beautiful little town, in the heart of the 1800's cotton Plantation area. We visited Rosedown Plantation, originally built by a Mr Daniel Turnbull for his wife Martha. Mind you he was the richest man in America, prior to the civil war. We took the tour and spent a very informative hour with the guide. Jo was ready to move in but the gardens just won't work for her but she doesn't have the 450 slaves that were once here to help.
Also in this historic area is Audubon State Historic Site. John Audubon lived in the Oakley Plantation and did a lot of his bird sketches there. Our RV Park is right across the road and we are under the trees with lots of birds around understandably
After New Orleans this is more the picture of the south we had envisaged. The Mississippi is right here and made it easy to get the cotton and sugar out so a logical location for the wealthy Planters.
If you love history and how the plantation were back then I would say you need to visit this place for sure.
Remember to click on the photos to make them larger, there is even an option for a slide show.

. Due to Katrina, it is impossible to know if you are in a dangerous part of town or an unfortunate part, either way we didn't take long to fix our mistake. The drive out of town was on an elevated road, or bridge.
