OUR STORY:

We set of from Mexico Beach at around 10 am, after a quick dip in the pool to cool of prior to the drive. We were on our way to Gulf Shores in Alabama. The distance we had to travel was not particularly long, but wow, was it exhausting, we must have gone through well over a hundred traffic lights as we drove along the road next to the beaches.

We had been told that we should go to Lulu's Restaurant. Lulu's is owned by Lucy Buffett and jimmy Buffett, from Margaritaville fame. We stopped by just to check it out as we intend to go tomorrow evening. We did not expect to find a restaurant that serves over 3000 meals a day. The place was a zoo , complete with a two hour waiting time to get in, apparently if we want to get in easily we should arrive at 11 am, 4 pm or 10 pm. So we headed off to the RV to have a nice BBQ. Funny how our imagination had conjured up a small family style place on the banks of the intercoastal waterway, with a funky atmosphere and great food, how wrong can you be?

Eatin' in Gulf Shores
Hi there, Lulu's original place was small and quaint. It was over to the east on Weeks Bay. Alas, the new place is like 6 Flags over Gulf Shores. The music is sometimes very good , the food is so-so, but it is a great place for families w/ small children as they can play in the sandpile playground while Mom and Dad unwind w/ an adult beverage ;o)

Re: Eatin' in Gulf Shores
Thanks Gulf girl, that would have been good to know before, we have now moved on to New Orleans. Actually we enjoyed Lulu's a unique place to visit.

Eating in Gulf Shores
Summertime is definitely a busy season for Gulf Shores. I'm a bit of a picky eater, so I always check out the dining info on www.thebeachiscalling.org first to look at menus. I make an annual trip (at least!) down to the beach. DEFINITELY get there early, 5-6, have a cold drink. If you wait until 7 for dinner, you'll be on the list for awhile. Then you've got plenty of time after dinner to relax.

Happy eating! And camping!
