With just over three weeks before I depart for Suriname, it is getting a little busy around here! I am learning Dutch, as Suriname is a Dutch colony and so that has been very interesting. I have a long way to go before I am fluent but I am sure the language will come a little quicker once I am there.
I hope to update my travelog at least once per week but that will depend on access to Internet. I am told that some of the offices are well equipped while others are not, so it depends on where I am working. I will be assisting four or five different AIDS Service Organizations with board development, strategic planning, and fund development. I may also be involved in the radio programming designed to reach the outlying villages and remote locations accessed only by river.
My host family in the capital of Paramaribo has not yet been assigned. I hope to know a bit about them before I leave in order to take some gifts for the family members.
In the meantime, I still have a bit of fundraising to do to reaching my target of $2,000. The Rotary Club of Grande Prairie has generously donated $1000 so I am half way there.
