We woke up and turned on the TV, that Wizard of Oz miniseries was on.  Lyly came over and we all had a lazy morning of just hanging out.  Amina went downstairs to the sushi place that is literally right downstairs from her apartment.  After eating and lazing around a little more we decided to get going.

We drove to Lyly's apartment and Lea dropped off her car there.  Anais was there and she drove us to Lea's parents house.  Before we left we made sure I had everything that belonged to me out of Lea's car because I probably wouldn't be seeing it again.

We hung out at Lea's for a while.  When I showered and got dressed I was thankful that I had packed extra socks and underwear.  But I wondered how much longer I would be able to get away with wearing the same outfits (3 different pants and about 4 top combinations) everyday just mixing and matching the different pieces.  It's more common in Europe for people to wear the same outfits a couple of days in a row so I'm sure no one cared that I was just switching around the same articles in different combinations, but I was about ready to get back and get some new clothes.

As we got ready to go out I asked myself yet again how they could do this every night.  I am not a night owl and I was getting exhausted staying out so late every night.  But this was my last night and I was really excited to get to see everyone again before I left!

I decided to try calling home again and this time I got through.  I called my Dad's house and talked to Pam and Andrew.  Pam gave me the number for my Dad's office because I only had his work cell phone and wanted to call a land line.  (PS I don't know very many people's landlines, everyone has cell phones which made it tricky to call very many people.)  I called his work but he was out on his lunch break so I had to call back later.  I knew Pam would talk to him first and when I told him so he said she told him to act surprised.  I told him he had made no such effort!  It was nice to call home.  I was glad Lea's mom told me I could do that!

Before we went out Lea told us her step-dad had made some snacks and we should hang out for a little bit longer.  He had prepared foie gras with toasted baguette and oysters.  I like oysters although these were cold and done differently than I've usually seen.  The foie gras is something Lea said they typically only have around Christmas time.  I tried it to be polite and because I always think you should try new things when you're in a foreign country (even if the new thing is fattened goose liver and you've dreaded ever trying it since the first year you started learning French and heard that they would eat such a thing).  Personally, I thought it tasted like what I imagine canned cat food would taste like, but that might just be because it came from a can like cat food, looked like cat food, and had the consistency of cat food.  It is a delicacy in France so it probably tastes better if you don't bring American preconceptions with you.

I had my camera with me and took some video with Lea's family.  Actually I took a few videos while I was in France.  I wanted to capture what it was like to be surrounded by French because I can never quite remember those experiences once I'm surrounded by English again.  I was thinking the other day of how surreal this whole experience is going to feel once I'm removed from it.  I want to grab as many reminders as I can so it won't feel so distant when I go home.

After hanging out with Lea's family we headed into Aix.  We went to the train station where I had come from Marseilles to pick up their friend Laure and her boyfriend.  When we got there they went in to look for them.  They couldn't find them so they called and realized they were at the other Aix train station which was about a 30 minute drive to get to.  We drove to that one and finally found them.  They had come from Paris where they were living and they had their luggage with them.  We had to fit them in the back seat with me so I realized my bag would have to go in the trunk.  There was some fancy maneuvering involved but finally we get all the bags to fit in the trunk.  Then there was some more fancy maneuvering and we got all out bodies to fit in the back seat.

We went back to the no-toilet bar which, aside from its bathroom issues, was a pretty cool place.  I took more videos with everybody.  I really liked Laure and we kept complaining that we hadn't gotten to meet until my last night.  Then she insisted that I push my flight back again and stay a couple more days.  When everyone was kiss-kissing goodbye, she said she refused to tell me goodbye because she was determined to see me the next day after I pushed my flight back.  I just laughed and said goodbye to her anyways, promising I would come back and visit France again!

We went back to Amina's apartment.  We had considered calling in a night early on but actually I was the one who insisted that since it was my last night I wanted to do it right and get to see everyone again before I left.  I did have to get up kind of early the next day so when we got to the apartment we all went to bed.

I was so sad.  I knew I'd be back but I'm horrible with goodbyes.  When we were at the bar I told Lea that I still had the note she wrote me when she left to go back to France.  It was just a quick "I <3 you" that she wrote on a business card and stuck under my windshield (I was at work when she came in to say goodbye), but I carried it around in my wallet.  Of course I cleaned out my wallet and now it's in a box back home but I do still have it.  When I told her that she told me how difficult it was to leave and come home.  I just knew how bad I am with goodbyes and I knew the next day was going to be hard.
