while traveling. When traveling abroad it is normal to expect a reasonable
amount of problems to arise. These usually have a simple solution. Today while
trying to entertain myself during my sister’s dress shopping endeavors, I walked
the streets of downtown Kalamazoo.
There were wine shops, small pubs, and boutiques of all sizes. Then I happened
upon an ATM (automatic teller machine). I wanted to try using my ATM card in a
city other than Alpena, just in case. It was in front of a Fifth Third Bank
with an impressive, grandiose marquis
through the machine’s rituals, pushing the correct sequence of buttons. Then all
of the sudden, the machine reads “Transaction Terminated” and then “Your Card
is Being Retained”. Here is the problem; I have enough cash to last a while in Germany, but
the ATM account was going to serve as my means while living there. So what do I
do now? It is 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Any bank will be closed today and
tomorrow. Now I have a call into the Bank of Alpena to hopefully get a hold of
me and send me a card in Germany.
I’ll keep you posted and let you all know how it turns out.
