Back in the car we headed to a little village of Chiflik to visit Marija's friend Lile. Lile came home to her parent's house, so Marija wanted to visit with her while we were here. There I met Lile's mother Mare and her uncle stopped by to have a cup of coffee
. Of course, we were served dinner after a bit of visiting. For dinner we had Maleshevski Zelnik. Like different types of "country meat", they also have different kinds of Zelnik. Meleshevo si the name of the area where Berovo is settled, so this was Maleshevski Zelnik. It is the hardest to make, but I think that the way it tastes makes up for it. While they all gabbed a while, Sashe and I watched part of a movie. I couldn't understand them, but Marija would translate some of the things they were talking about. Mostly the conversations were about family and friends, so I didn't mind about not knowing everything they said. Lile can speak english but she didn't try, she said she was too shy. I guess I know how she feels, cause the more Macedonian I learn, they want me to tell what I know to people and it makes me kinda shy too. I don't mind saying things in Macedonian, but sometimes I am afraid I will say something wrong. It's okay to say something wrong around Marija and Sashe, cause they will correct me.
Leaving from Lile's house, we headed back to our house. When we got there, I played with Rita- our pet for the weekend. I think Rita is a mix between Husky and Gold Retriever. She is really cute and a sweet dog. Went to freshen up, because we decided to go to the center of Berovo for a drink. We called Lile to meet us there and then we were off again. We arrived to a small center where the people of Berovo would hang out. It wasn't much ,but the atmosphere of everyone out together was kind of nice
. Marija got us some popcorn that a couple of guys were selling and we sat at a cafe for drinks. I got hot chocolate, they have figured out that I don't drink coffee! Lile joined us and she had with her a cousin of hers named Natasha. We sat and chatted a bit before we headed back to our house for some sleep. Before we left I was invited to go with Natasha and Lile to go and pick up guys.... well Natasha said if I found a man, then I would marry him and it would be perfect, cause the people there don't speak proper Macedonian and I speak english so we would just be happy together. I don't know about that! When we got back to turn in for the night, I couldn't notice the stars in the perfect clear sky. It was a gorgeous site. The night was still and quiet and you were surrounded by stars, it reminded me of my home in Ohio.
Headed to bed early and although I was tired from traveling, I could not get to sleep. So, I was very suprised when I woke up by myself. Got dressed and went down to eat breakfast. In the car we went. We first drove to a former border crossing into Bulgaria. The border closed in 1998 due to the fact that there were not many people to cross at that particular border...it's no wonder, it was in the middle of nowhere!! Along the way we were paused by a herd of sheep and their caretaker. After passing clear of sheep, we headed down to a lake near our house. Further down on lake we came to a small dam. Sashe took me on the dam, but because it has to do with Military reasons I was not allowed to take pictures.
