Well I guess this is what you've all been waiting for. A blog from the man who tells it like it is and has a sense of humour that will leave you in awe for days, months, maybe even for years to come. His name is Matthew McKinnon and this is his story of a little place I like to call Duestceland, or as you Westerners say, Germany.

It all started on a sunny Thursday morning. We packed our bags from hectic Amsterdam and headed southwest for a little town in the Moselle Valley called Cochem. As we were heading along the highway towards our destination we couldn't but help the speed in which the cars were overtaking  Karl at. The highways are known as Autobahns over here which means there is no speed limit and the Europeans are known for their inauspicious driving habits. In my first effort at reliving my pilot from his duties as he has basically driven through western Europe and I thought I owed him a favour I realised very quickly about endeavouring to ovetake another  car in front Night in small town with Roger

. As you look to your rear vision mirror you basically see no cars in site. You decide to blinker when out of know where a car has flown past you at 200km/hr and almost throws Karl off the road. As i lost my wallet and haven't driven a car for almost 7 months I decided to keep my own speed limit at 90km/hr and not overtake for about 160km in the fear of being hit by a German speed racer.

Anyway as we headed towards Cochem we couldn't help but notice the amazing scenery as we got closer and closer. The winding roads that head to towards the wine making area known as the Moselle Valley are breathtaking. We weren't expecting such a scenic drive through Germany and once we finally got to our town of Cochem we were blown away. The first thing you see is a dramatic castle perched upon a hill overlooking the Moselle river and as you get deeper and deeper into the small town you begin to realise how beautiful this part of western Germany is. It is saturated by mountains and cobblestoned streets that we tried to wander through as the sun went down. We then searched for a camping ground as it had been quite a few days since a proper shower and had washed our clothes. We landed one right on the river and went for a quick beer before we called it a night. The next day we decided go for a wine tasting tour as we are in the Moselle region. We stumbled across the oldest wine making cellar in the Moselle Valley and headed in Sunset in Lindau
Sunset in Lindau
. We came across an elderly man who seemed happy to see us. He offered us 7 different types of white wines including some ice wines which were very easy on the pallet. He didn't charge us for any of it so we decided to buy a bottle of his finest and left with a big hug and a kiss. After this we thought it was time to walk see the castle. I had been dreading this a bit as its about a 500m walk directly towards the sun. Brad was tired after the wine so I preceded to piggy back him up the hill until i couldn't take it no more. What are friends for? The view from this vantage point was well worth the pain of carrying a man only just tipping the scales at 70kg, (chest hair not included). We took some photos and headed back down. As we were leaving we decided to jump in the river for a quick swim and head off to the university city of Heidelberg.

Heidelberg is another story of triumph and tragedy. As we drove into the city we noticed a park full of germs bathing next to the river. We decided to pull over, buy some cans and drink with the rest of the young germs. We past the footy for a while whilst having a beer when we noticed some policeman checking out several cars for tickets. Every car had a blue sticker on the inside instead of ours. I raced over and got brad as I had been on the toilet for half an hr. He was a little intoxicated as we had been drinking for an hr now. We jumped in the car about 4 cars before the cops got to see us and drove to the next parking spot on the side of the road Lake Constanz

. Another crisis averted. But not for long. After another massive night on the drink in the city with some great Germans that we met at some bar and brad getting home at 7 we finally crashed in the van. I got home a little earlier than brad and decided to hit the hay. Unfortunately in doing so I put 4 holes in his blow up mattress and deflated the whole thing. I didn't care at the time and fell asleep. It was so fu#$in hot that I decided to sleep nude and didn't realise that when brad finally gets home he'll have to crash next to me. What I woke up to was quite disturbing. The back doors to the van were both wide open cause of how hot is was in the van. There were two cops standing over the top of us with me completely stark naked with brad lying next to me. They weren't too impressed and told us to get the hell out of there and move on. We then quickly scampered to another parking spot over the river and slept on the pavement on the side of the road till we sobered up, jumped in the river had a shave and began exploring another beautiful spot in Germany. We soon realised that the Euro cup semi final was being played tonight and Germany were playing Russia. It was amazing. The streets of Heidelberg were flooded with fans and TVs that had been placed in the streets for people passing by to sit down, have a beer and enjoy the football. What ensued was a great game where Germany won 3 - 2 and the streets erupted. The place was buzzing, We had a few more beers with some jubilant locals and called it a night For you Tman

. We packed up the van and head to Lake Constance.

Lake Constance is situated on the Austrian, Switzerland and German border. We pulled up park at a little town called Lindaur right on the lake. We drank and ate at a quaint restaurant on the water facing the swiss and Austrian alps where we discussed our recent travels and adventures. We met an American guy named Roger and swapped stories with him over a few more beers. He was a genuine bloke who made coffee for us the next day. He actually made brad two coffees and didn't offer me another one. I wasn't quite sure what the deal was but once I caught them smile I knew something might be up. I went to bed early in the night before and left them to themselves. I hope they had a good night whatever they got up to. We left roger the next day, or dodger as brad called him and headed for one little stop in the east of Germany in a another little town. This was a quiet night where we reflected on our trip through Germany and caught up on some much needed sleep.

All in all Germany was an unexpected oasis where we met some great places and met some amazing germs. Cant wait to go back!

First of all there are a few ppl id like to thank for allowing to me become part of this great team that are putting together these travel blogs For you Tman no.2
For you Tman no.2
. First theres Roberto Sanchez, a young Spanish lad who likes to come out whenever he meets anyone who speaks some Spanish and feels it might give him an advantage over his Aussie counterpart with the females. Then theres Buck Seymour, a 30 something Texan who comes out every time we meet some American birds. He feels this ego also gives him so kind of edge. Please. Also like to thank Mr Hyde, friends of Jekyll who comes out every time we enter a major city. Hes the kinda bloke who feels like just cause hes behind the wheel gives him the right to start barking impossible orders at this great Aussie guy who cant give him any answers to where we are going as the map ISNT DETAILED ENOUGH AND I CANT READ THE STREETS SIGNS.
And finally I like to thank Brad for allowing me to turn these blogs from a good thing to something that might one day rival that of Anne Frank and Ricky Pontings 2003 World Cup diary.

* Some events may have been embellished for the sake of creative writing and a good yarn. Believe what you want though, we all know the truth!
