Well I just wasted an hour of time typing out a nice travelogue of my first few days on the island when Netscape just decided to shut down. In short, things have been going great so far. I've spent a couple of days taking in the marvellous geography of Gros Morne National park including the hike to the top of Gros Morne Mountain. That hike is easily the best one I've ever done in any park. You get 3.5 hours of spectacular view for your efforts.
I then headed up to L'Anse Aux Meadows for the viking exhibit and St. Anthony for the Grenfell museum. While there I spotted my first iceberg of my trip. It was grounded just inside St.Anthony's Bight and was not more than 100 yards offshore.
Newfoundland is one of the prettiest places I've been. I'm going through film at more than a roll per day. The people here have also lived up to expectations though I'm just beginning to get used to the accent. It took me awhile to figure out what "floyzertick" means.
I've just arrived in Twillingate where another iceberg is scooting by the harbour opening. The town has been quick to convert from fishing to tourism as their main industry. There are times though when I feel that I'm not "on vacation" and rather I'm "pumping tourist dollars into the local economy."
Hmmm... what else?
I've seen two moose. I've had my first taste of Jam Jams (right on Ian!). Just this morning I went by Dildo Run. I find it amusing that just about every restaurant on the island has to clarify that they "specialize in seafood." And I've had some amusing encounters with my can opener that I'll fill you in on later.
Unfortunately, this is a much shorter version of what I've been up to but I was planning on filling everything out once I got home anyway.
Finally, to all you guys back at work laughing at me because Rob Kravitz passed me on the 401 on Friday night I do have a good excuse for my tardiness.
