While it would be quite easy to guess that gasoline was my number one expense on this trip I think it might surprise you what ranked second... film developing. I took over a thousand pictures of the course of 35 days. I've pulled out about 20 photos for you to enjoy. It's really just a teaser. In the next couple of weeks a lot more of them will be showing up on my own website Craptasia.
All of these shots were taken with a Minolta STsi using a 28-80mm lens with a polarizer or a 70-210mm zoom. Although you don't see any shots here I also took along a Nikon F2020 with a 28mm fixed lens to take slides and a Canon FTb with a 50mm fixed lens for black & white shots. Development and scanning were done by Black's. Luckily Black's has a bulk development rate that saved me over $220.
I guess I'm back in the swing of things now and I realize that the Doukhabours had it all wrong
Time to roll the credits...
Thank you Kyle McCauley for the use of the digital camera.
Thank you Robert Shechter for the camera (Nikon F2020), camera bag, tripod, slide film, vest, and great knowledge of photography. If you want to see some great travel shots please visit Robert's website at RobertPhoto.ca.
Thank you Garry Sowerby for inspiration and wisdom. If you want to read about Garry's trip from Tiera Del Fuego to Prudhoe Bay check out "Road Fever" by Tim Cahill.
Thank you Fu Manchu. For those of you who want to know about how the Mongoose got its name, it's fairly simple. Each car I've owned ended up being named because of the first song I ever heard on its stereo. That song happenned to be Mongoose by Fu Manchu for my Mazda Protege5.
Thank you Tara Higgins for your Calgary hospitality.
Thank you Wired Cabin in Whitehorse.
Thank you Donna Francis for making sure Laurel the cat remained her usual rotund self while I was away.
Thank you Subway Sandwich Artists everywhere. I suppose I should also thank the reclusive Mr.Noodles too.
Thank you Travelpod. I've been a member now for 4 years and it's been amazing to see how this site has grown both in functionality and in popularity. Keep up the great work Luc!
Thanks to everyone who sent me emails providing encouragement and feedback on this travelogue. You can't believe the fun I have typing this all out.
Thank you Mongoose.
