it took us quite awhile to get to Avignon. after a train connection on the border of Spain and France (they actually checked out passport!) we finally got to Avignon around 7:30 P.M. the first train along the Spanish coast was beautiful but i slept most of the second train since i didn't get much sleep the night before. Taylore and i checked into our hotel (the only hostel was outside the city and we got in late as it is) and had a great dinner including French Onion Soup. we walked around the town of Avignon, seeing all the sights lit up at night. the town of Avignon is surrounded by giant castle walls like in Avila and inside is the Palace of the Popes where the popes hid from persecution in Italy. the fortress walls and towers were quite impressive and some of the walls were built right into the hillside. there are also a couple of old stone bridges that go over the river Rhone, just at the edge of the town. Avignon is very beautiful. out hotel room was quite nice as well. this morning we head to Nice. the hostel Taylore booked is 1 minute from the beach, i am so excited. we are staying 2 night in Nice and doing a day trip to Monaco tomorrow i think, should be really nice.
