wow Grindewald is amazing!  we took a train from Lucerne to Interlaken, then another train from Interlaken to Grindewald.  we are up at some of the tallest peaks in all of the Swiss Alps where at the very top there is snow year round.  we were going to take a train to the highest train station in all of Europe called Jungfroujoch but it is an all day destination, costs $145, and it was cloudy up there so we didn't go.  we didn't get to Grindewald and check into our hostel till 2:15 or so, so we took instead a gondola from Grindewald to First, which is over 7000 feet above sea level.  we hiked around First, beautiful green hills, rocky cliffs, gorgeous views of the snow capped alps all around us, and the sounds of cow bells everywhere.  when Maria sings the hills are alive with the sound of music she must have heard all the cow bells.  there are a lot of cattle herders up on the mountain sides and the cows are free to wander all along the hills eating the grass.  you know the bells they sell in gift shops, all the cows had those bells around their necks so that the herders could find them if they get lost.  as we were hiking all we could hear were the bells and it was really funny to see a group of them walk by.  if i lived there i would go crazy from all the noise.  the air up there was so fresh and crisp and the views i have only seen in pictures or paintings.  we got back to Grindewald and hiked back up to our hostel at around 5:00 instead of waiting for the bus.  by that time we had done quite a bit of hiking between Grindewald and First so we were pretty tired.  we had a nice, relying, evening at the hostel.  the views of the Alps and surrounding hills from our hostel were so amazing.  at night when we were getting ready for bed, i walked out onto the balcony we had from our room and saw the brightness most awe inspiring full moon i have ever seen in my whole life.  it was nestled between 2 peaks of the Alps and black clouds swirling all around the moon like you see in a painting but never in real life.  the moon was so bright there were moon rays visible through the clouds like the sun's rays can be seen through clouds during the day.  the moon almost didn't look real it was so unbelievable.  i would love to come back her and spend more time.  even though it's $145, i want to come back and go to Jungfroujoch for a whole day.  even in the summer you can go skiing, dog sledding, explore ice caves, go inside and ice palace, and amazing views from the observatory at this place.  you can ski go skydiving, hang gliding, and tons of great hiking trails. it'd be a blast to come back her in the winter as well and ski.  i am so glad we came here and i can't wait to come back.
