Going to the Theater
Entry 13 of 80 | show all | print this entry |
the last 3 days have been amazing! Friday we arrived in London to check our bags into our hostel and then we took the train to see Windsor Castle and Eton College. after York we were originally supposed to go to Cambridge and then Cantebury. Cambridge is the twin of Oxford, which we saw, with almost the exact same colleges (the names at least) and we were going to Cantebury to see the cathedral there where the Archbishop of England resides. we decided we have seen and will see plenty of cathedrals so we saw Windsor Castle, which is the oldest and biggest inhabited castle in the world. the Queen spends most weekends in the summer at Windsor and when we went there Friday she was there (but unfortunately like Nessie of Loch Ness, we didn't see her). St. George's Chapel inside Windsor was beautiful and seeing the State Apartments of Windsor was breathtaking. all the rooms are huge, ornate, with decorative gold, esquisitley painted ceilings, huge original paintings on the walls, the room where the Queen nights people, and entrance rooms with amazing swords and guns. We also saw the Queen's doll collection with a miniature doll house of Buckingham Palace. We walked to Eton college but the grounds were closed. Friday night we saw Harry Potter 5 at the huge Odieon Theater where the world premier of the moive was. the theater is all digital with a balcony like when you see a play or musical. saturday we were supposed to go to Dover but there are so many musicals playing in London (musicals are my favorite thing in the whole world) that i decided to stay in London and see some shows. Saturday morning we went and saw the Tate Museum with a really cool Global Cities exhibit, 50% of the world's population now live in cities. then Saturday afternoon i saw Wicked for the second time, it was that good i had to see it again, it's my favorite musical of all that i've seen and i've seen a lot! Saturday night i saw Les Miserables. it was really, really good but my seat was so far back, it was the only one available, that i think i would have loved it even more if i was on the ground floor and could see their facial expressions. the music was beautiful and the singing was top notch. (Les Miserables is my sister Sara's favorite musical but she hasn't seen Wicked yet.) Sunday morning Taylore and i went to the Star Wars exhibit at the County Hall in London. the exhibit had all kinds of pictures, models, costumes, etc. from all 6 Star Wars movies, celebrating the 30th Anniversary of the first Star Wars movie, Episode IV. Sunday afternoon i went and saw The Lion King. i had seen the Disney movie, but the live stage production was visually stunning. it was awesome! i love African tribal dancing and the costumes were spectacular and the singing was pheonominal. i knew most of the songs from the Disney movie,, which made the show more enjoyable. the actors dressed up as different animals and literrally danced throughout the whole theater. so now Taylore and i fly to Stockholm to meet up with my sunt, uncle, and 2 cousins. Marianne, who was with us from the beginning of the trip, flew Saturday night to Copenhagen to be with her aunt for a month before she returns to the states. the UK was fun, but I'm excited to see a different part of Europe.
