We spent 4 nights (April 28 through May 2) in Sydney at the Lane Cove River Tourist Park. We were actually 15 km or so north of Syndey, near the CH2M HILL office in Chatswood. The tourist park was next to a national park and felt like it was in the middle of nowhere. Brad's favorite place in all of the Sydney area was The Ranch near our tourist park. They had specials all nights of the week, and for Tight Arse Tuesday they offered anything on the menu for $15, which included a beer. AND they were showing Stanley Cup San Jose Sharks game (which turned out to be quite sad as they lost to the Ducks).
Wed April 29th, we went to downtown Sydney to see the opera house, then took a ferry to Manly Beach (Brad's favorite) for afternoon beers. That evening we went to King's Cross for beers and pub food.
Thurs April 30th we attempted to drive around Sydney, which was a bit of a nightmare. We went to Fisherman's wharf, where Sandi bought a mud crab that set us back $50 AUD!! (and it wasn't even as good as our Dungeness Crab). Then to Bondi Beach where Brad was pummeled by waves in an attempt to surf. He was finally able to paddle out to the big waves, which was a huge accomplishment in itself.
Fri May 1st, we met up with Duncan Bosswalker. Brad met Duncan through Mare Island fieldwork about 5 years ago. Duncan got CH2M HILL's SYD ES group together for lunch. After several beers and a great lunch, Sandi was ready to sign the transfer papers to move from RDD to SYD. We met Duncan and Luke for beers & cocktails at a pub that night. Brad caught the "flu", and we had a foggy drive out of Sydney Saturday morning.
