The walk to the station gave me the opportunity to have another quick glance at Edinburgh, though I think that one extra day here would have been worthwhile. This is an intriguing city with classic stone buildings and cobblestone streets. There are also a number of museums and interesting walks.

The first part of this train journey is spectacular. The rail line hugs the rocky, windswept cliffs offering fantastic views of the passing coastline. The diesel powered trains serving these routes are certainly not so new and have a striking resemblance to the 20 year old XPT trains used to serve regional NSW in Australia, though this train was smooth and fast. The 533 km journey was complete in just 4.5 hrs.

On reaching London I was welcomed with a blast of cold air and a dumping of rain; can you believe that it was colder than Edinburgh? The 'Clink' is an old court building which has been tastefully transformed into a backpacker's hostel. The reception remains, one court room is now used as a lounge and the other as an internet cafe. My roommates turned out to be a couple of nice Mexican girls who were chattering away in Spanish as I entered the room so naturally I joined in the conversation and they asked me if I was interested in joining them for a feed at a Cuban Tapas restaurant. The restaurant was cool and the food was nice though it was so cold that night, I mean like crazy cold, we were thinking about stopping to see a movie at a cinema but it was simply too cold to want to stay out... and what is it about the cold that makes you want to piss every 10 minutes?
