The week leading up to this trip was a rush, though I did get the chance to take a couple of pics with some of my work colleagues the day before I left. After packing up my things from the house at Kensington I stopped at the dentist to have a couple of teeth drilled... ouch, collected my tickets from the travel agent then dropped into my parents place. Whilst I was there, both of my brothers, one of whom normally lives at Airlie Beach QLD, were there for lunch to give me a send off.
The following morning my folks dropped me off at Sydney Airport and I was off to LA. Since the flight was only half full I had a whole 3 seater to myself which allowed me some serious sleep time. During the 14 hour flight I met Nick from Darwin who was on his way to New Jersey to see a friend. He showed me his Barramundi fishing photos and some of these fish are seriously enormous. I also learnt that fishing in these waters is something of a dangerous sport; he told me about two guys he knew who had been taken by crocks while fishing for Barramundi. After arriving at LA I discovered that my flight to Lima with LAN Chile had been delayed by 8 hours so, as a consolation, we were given hotel rooms to take a bit of a nap plus two meal vouchers. While waiting for the bus to the hotel I met Thomas from Poland, a seasoned traveller on his way to northern Chile.
