After San Augustin i backtracked a bit, north again. There were two ways from S.A. to Ecuador: 6 hrs on a bumpy road N.E. to Popayan, and then South (longer but more comfortable) or straight down (an even longer bumpy road). I figured the former would be better, with the added benefit that Cali was only 2.5hrs/$3.50 further on (and it was a Saturday).

So, here i am in Cali. The city of Salsa and plastic surgery, and supposedly home to some of the hottest girls in Colombia.

To address the most important issue first...Well, the standards here donīt seem any higher than elsewhere. All pretty average but with many very pleasant exceptions.

Unlike clubs in the UK which are mostly full of singles looking to hook up, The Salsa parties and clubs are mostly full of couples and the No. 1 aim is dancing. And theyīre damn good at it - in contrast to the average UK club where drinking is No. 1 and some form of movement (dancing? Pha!) a distinct second.

One of the reasons i headed up here for the Saturday night was obviously to party. I failed, and after watching Bad Boys (1 and 2...) i went to bed. I guess that a hike, 5 hours mountain biking, overnight bus followed by 5 hours on a jeep, 4 hours on a horse and a 5am start with another 10 hours in a bus was bound to catch up with me at some point...

...and iīve also made another revision to my future route planning thought process. Donīt visit a city just because itīs there (a city is a city is a city - they all have bars, clubs and shops - it needs real `must do`s to be worth a cross on the map), and donīt travel to party (unless itīs Carnival or something...itīs better spontaneous than planned as expectations are never met).

So...Cali? For Salsa, itīs probably awesome for keen dancers. Good nightlife, lots of shops, museums and stuff...but there is f***-all to actually īdoī. A bit like every other city then.
