After Tayrona, we burned a line back to Santa Marta. Vincent was off to Barranquila to square away a girl he met earlier that week whilst Avel and I were keen to head south - somewhere near Bucaramanga.

The busfare to Bogota was cheaper than to Bucaramanga (which was only half as far!) and we got it for 60.000 rather than the 135.000 online price - so our route was pretty much decided by economics rather than where we wanted to go!

And what a coach. Even for me, i had a foot of leg/knee-room to spare, a seat that recline ALL the way and a leg-rest that came up to meet it. Decent films the whole way (18 hours/1000km) made the time, dare i say, fly. Actually, that's a lie. Despite it being overnight, 18 hours is still a long time with the aircon cranked all the way up. Why o why o why?

Anyways, we uneventfully got to Bogota and took a collectivo bound for el centro, where we found the Platypus hostel (or an outbuilding owned by it). All good. Santa Marta to our Bogota hostel door 1000km away for $25, in luxury, if not style.

Outskirts/slums aside, central Bogota is as modern as any Western City, and its bus network/newness, banks and automotive practices probably put it a notch or two above many.

Time to explore tomorrow.
