A little change in plans, but hey that is what is so great about a road trip.

Since we saw everything we wanted to at Mall of America last night we were able to get away from Bloomington ahead of schedule by a couple of hours. Since we knew we had a little more time and our destination in Austin did not open till noon, we added a side trip to Red Wing, MN.

You are thinking why Red Wing? Aren't they a company that makes boots and shoes? Well the answer is yes!  The trip allowed us to follow a scenic route along the Mississippi traveling past a scenic overlook near Hastings, MN. It took us less than an hour and we arrived in the quaint town of Red Wing.  The store is also the museum and contains the world's largest boot.

This boot is two stories tall and weighs over 2500 pounds. It is made up of 55 hides of leather. Anyway we just had to stop in. The museum is actually very interesting and they have a short film on how the boots are made.

We were there for about an hour, but we found it to be a great side trip. You can see some of the pictures as part of this entry.

On to Austin, MN

Alison's Entry

Very big shoe. The tiny museum was interesting. Can't wait for the next stop.

Peg's Additions:

This turned out to be one of our better ideas.  The drive was so pretty and the town is being revitalized with cute shops and restaurants.  I thought we would just see a big boot but they had a really interesting museum.  The workers were so friendly.  I was talking to one for at least 15 minutes while Bill and Alison were talking to another.  Love the accents of Minnesota.
