I had wanted to swing by Chippewa Falls and visit the Leinenkugel Brewery, as I had been to the "visitor's center" about 25 years ago while working for the Army. Did not get to tour the brewery then (it was in early February) and thought this would be a good chance.
The web site for the brewery said reservations recommended, but I did not think it would be that big of a thing. Well 25 years changes things and I was dead wrong.
We pulled into the parking lot in Chippewa Falls around 3:20pm. Proceeded to find that the quaint little visitor's center was now "Leine's Lodge". A huge gift store and drinking establishment of samples (They were not the shot glass sized samples I expected, but 8 oz samples and you could get lots of tickets). Safe to say folks were enjoying themselves and the parking lot was full. Needless to say the folks handling tickets for the tours basically said "Sorry Charlie" and that we should have called ahead. Of course, with the way things flowed for us this was not really an option. So we picked up a couple of souvenirs and cut our losses by getting on the road sooner so as to spend more time at the Mall of America.
Oh well, stuff happens.
Dad did not get to take the tour, but I got another nice key chain to add to my collection.
This was like a big party for twenty-somethings. They give you tickets to get drinks which were the largest samples I've ever seen. A comment I heard while in the bathroom says it all: "Don't you just hate it when toilet paper gets stuck on your shoe?" she giggled. I thought I was back in college.
