They have you drive the cars in and they pack them as tight as possible. Peg and Alison walked on to get seats while i came up later. The trip is about 2 hours and 45 minutes. Also you gain an hour as you cross into the Central time zone crossing the lake.
We had heard potential horror stories of when the lake is turbulent
I have included a couple of pictures of the boat coming into dock and then some of the things we saw leaving the harbor in Muskegon, including a WWII submarine as part of a museum there.
After the boat got out of the harbor they really cranked up the engines and it was too windy to really enjoy being on top. The winds felt like 40 to 50 mph.
We wrap up this portion of the trip in the next entry.
We went from Muskegon, Michigan to Milwaukee, Wisconsin. It was a two and a half hour ride but because of the time change it sounded less. The only thing that was exciting to me besides going up top (which you couldn't do the whole time since it is so windy), was watching the movie they had playing. You had to rent a pair of headphones to watch it
Alison and I got in line to board and had to wait in the hot sun. It was worth it when we got choice seats on the ferry. I never had such a smooth ride ever on a ferry! I was so impressed with how nice the seats were. No wonder so many people take this ferry.
