I woke up on Thursday morning and the rain was still falling.  Up to now I was kind of enjoying this rain that, unlike home, was warm and fell straight down as opposed to blowing sidways, but having experienced a very deflated atmosphere about the place the previous night I decided to get on the road and stay on it til I saw some blue sky.

I drove, and drove, and drove, covering nearly 800 kms that day and eventually ended up in 1770, a town named after the year Captain Cook first landed there.  It was well after dark when I arrived and everything was closed but the rain had stopped for the first time since I left Cairns.  I pulled into a lay-by beside the sea and crashed out there for the night.

The next morning I woke up to the most amazing view out across the bay and the sun was shining - yaaaay!  I got brekkie and spent the morning walking in the National Park and at one stage, while walking along the beach, there was a dolphin swimimg along beside me about 20m out for about 15 minutes.

It started raining again around lunchtime but it was nothing like as heavy as it had been for the previous few days.
