On Tuesday morning, having said goodbye to Pete and Port Douglas I headed to Cairns to pick up what I would be calling home for the next few weeks - my 'Hippie Camper'.

http://www.hippiecamper.com/

When I saw it I just burst out laughing!  I knew from the website that it would be a bit mad looking but this yoke was bright torquoise with massive flowers and butterflies painted all over it.  As I said to someone afterwards, I think my camper and the Great Wall of China were the only man-made objects on earth visible from space!

I picked up the van in the scortching sunshine and started on the road south.  Shortly after leaving Cairns it got a bit cloudy and then the rain came.  It was coming down hard and the driving conditions were fairly difficult so I pulled into a caravan park in Mission Beach for the night.  There seemed to be quite a few campers and tents around but, with the rain coming down hard, everyone was staying tucked up.  There was a bit of craic later in the TV room with English and Kiwi cricket fans abusing each other (in a fun way) during the ENG V NZ match but other than that it was a quiet night.
