AUSTRALIA DAY!!!

I got back to Port the previous evening and went into town with Pete to sink a few scooners and watch 'The Swinging Allycats' do their thing at one of the local bars.  On friday morning we got up at 05.30 to get down to the harbour and out on the water early.

Down on the boat we met up with two of Pete's buddies and two of their buddies and the six of us headed out to sea on 'The Joker' to see if we could catch some dinner.  It was lashing rain when we left Port but once we got out to sea the skies cleared and it turned into a scorcher of a day.

Pete was first to land a fish and not long after hooking up the rods, a nice juicy Spanish Mackerel was on ice.  It sorta slowed down a bit then, but after a while a big Marlin went around and had a chomp on all of the lures that were out but managed to escape getting hooked.  A Dolphin Fish (no, not a Dolphin!) swallowed a hook at one stage aswell but managed the jump out of the water and free himself fairly quickly.  The lads managed to land a Rainbow Runner and a Barracuda as well but other than that, the fishies were avoiding us for the day.

It was a great day out and when we got back to Pete's he stuck some fresh Mackerel on the pan while I ran around the chipper.  Without doubt, it was the freshest fish 'n' chips I've ever had - out of the sea and onto the plate!

(I won't go into the details of my emptying the remnants of the previous night's pints from my stomach over the side of the boat - you probably don't want to hear that bit!)
