Arriving back in Kuta I headed out to book a dive trip for the following morning. There was nobody else booked to dive that day and because I was alone, they were unable to give me more than US$15 discount but it was still unbelievably cheap!
For $80, I was met at the hotel at 07.30 by the girl I booked the trip with, picked up by minibus with a driver and dive master on board, driven for over two hours to the dive site, went on the first dive, had lunch (included), did the second dive and was driven back to Kuta for about 17.30. It's hard to understand how that $80 could have been divided up to pay the booking agent's commission, a day's wages for both the driver and the dive master, there were guys at the dive site who carried all the gear from the bus to the beach who were obviously getting paid by someone, and lunch was included as well! The dive master and the driver were great craic and I gave them a decent tip which, although only a few quid to me, was probably about a weeks wages for each of them.
The diving itself was amazing. A 160m fairly well intact navy ship, about 50m from the beach lay between 6m and 30m was full of all sorts of life and the visibility was excellent. I was given a full history of the ship including where it came from and how it ended up there but I didn't write it down and can't remember now - I'll look it up when I get home.
That evening I went out to watch the Liverpool V Chelsea game in a sports bar which seemed to be split right down the middle with fans of both teams. Not really being a fan of either team, I sat in the middle and enjoyed the banter and rivalry that went on for the night.
The following evening I was leaving for Australia so I arranged a late check-out and got prepared to get back to civilisation.
