TUE. 16 JAN. 2007

SINGAPORE (GMT + 8h)

Arrived from Mumbai at about 07.30 and had a day to kill before my flight to Bali departed at 21.15.  Having spent the last couple of weeks in and out of Indian and Nepalese airports, this place was a dream!  I could have spent a week just in the airport and never got bored - gadget shops everywhere you look and free internet access all over the place.  I had my luggage checked all the way through to Bali so I set off with just my backpack to have a look at Singapore.

The tourist authority there want people passing through to leave as much of their hard earned cash behind them as possible, so they have free transport into the city centre and a tour guide to point out all the shopping centres.  I jumped on the bus with a map and was dropped in 'Little India'.  (I'd just come from 'Big India', so I didn't spend too much time there.)  I made my way to Sim Lim Square which is a shopping centre that I could happily move into and spend the rest of my life in - 5 levels of nothing but electronics and gadgets!  When I die, I want to go to Sim Lim Square instead of heaven.  From there I made my way to Suntec City Mall, the biggest mall in Malaysia according to the tour guide, where I spent another few hours browsing.

The heat in Singapore was incredible once you ventured outdoors so after lunch I made my way back to the airport to chillax for the afternoon.  Part of the tourist authority thing is a free shower when you get back - about 5 minutes walking outside in Singapore will have you dripping in sweat so it could be a pretty stinky airport if this wasn't available!

I spent a while shopping and browsing, had my first McDonald's since I left Ireland (Mmmmmm!) and then checked into the Airport lounge to chill and spend a bit of time online.

My 2h 30m Quantas flight to Bali left on time and I had a whole emergency exit row to myself with heaps of leg room and sleeping space - sweeeeeet!
