I decided to do an overnight trip to Bhaktapur (the water problem at Ganesh Hotel kind of helped with this decision!) Once again I opted for a taxi and found a great room at Bhadgaon Guest House (www.bhadgaon.com.np) which was 1,025 rupies for 1 night (no breakfast). I settled in and decided to go out right away and do some sight seeing. Once again, this is really a nice break from Kathmandu- noise and dust level are down, traffic is minimal and hassling is also limited. Anyone visiting Kathmandu and enjoying history need to visit Bhaktapur (also know as Bhadgaon. "Bhaktapur ruled the valley until 1482". In the Rough Guide to Nepal it says that there is an entrance fee of $10.00. I am not sure if I was just lucky or if the fee no longer exists but I was never asked to pay it. I did not enter Durbar Square from the main gates so that could also be another reason. I totally enjoyed Bhaktapur going from one square to another including the Potters' streets. Unfortunately, late afternoon I was not feeling very well and had to go back to the room (but not before buying some lemons

. ) Why lemons? After washing my hair at least 6 times and not getting a brush or comb through it and getting major headaches from the attemps I decide that I need something to break down the varnish or whatever may have been in the water at Ganesh Guesthouse and the only thing I can think of is 'lemons'. No matter how unwell I feel I need to do something with my hair. So I attemt another wash and good scrub with lemon leaving it in for a half hour and then washing it again. Eureka!!!! it worked. I must say that anywhere in America this would be ending in a law suit!!!!! Achy bones, fever and all the rest puts me to bed very early but all the aching makes for not so much sleep. During this sleepless night I start worrying about my flight on July 2. With the "Swine flu" pandemic . . .if there are any signs of fever . . . they will not let me board the plane. I get up and check my overnight bag to see if I had brought my "lifesaver antibiotics" with me and I had. I quickly take one and get back to bed. I fall asleep and when I wake up at least most of the bone ache is gone and fever but headache and the rest are still persisting. I don't feel well enough to do more sightseeing and being that I had kept my room in Kathmandu I don't really want to pay for two rooms for a second night, I decide to go back right away. (I am also a little worried that this could get worse and I want to be where I can get decent medical advice!!!) Back in Kathmandu, I get a bottle of water and back to bed where I spend the remainder of the day and night. Woke up at 3 a.m. and am feeling much better and of course am wide awake. Luckily I have a great novel Tandia by Bryce Courtenay that keeps me reading for the remainder of the night.
