Day 3 - Lhasa
This was another emotional day visiting the Dalai Lama's Summer Palace and again seeing the locals come here to pray and ask for the return of the Dalai Lama as explained to me by a Monk residing at Nobulingka.  I had the guided tour by my guide but the gardens were so beautiful and I wanted to also spend some time here by myself and take everything in so when we were finished I told the guide that I would not be needing her for the rest of the day. I stayed at the palace and did a second visit on my own and talked with a monk and then spent some time in the lovely gardens.  I finally left around 2 p.m. to visit the museum.

Crossing the street to get to the museum I noticed that there was major construction and couldn't get in.  I finally found a guard and he told me that the museum was closed but I could check at a side entrance to see if there was possibility of getting in.  At the side entrance I am that there is one section that is open and is free!!!  That would have given me great joy except after visiting that section I now understand that it is free because the Chinese governement want to see everybody visiting this section as it is total chinese propoganda as to how it has saved the Tibetan people from their misery  and torture from the Dalai Lamas and the Tibetan Aristocrats!!!!  The section is entitled "Old Tibet and New Tibet"  In the section of Old Tibet there are scultures showing the Aristocrats and monks torturing the locals (cutting off fingers, starving them and torturing them in everyway possible) and many explanations on how miserable the Tibetans lives were before the Chinese Goverment stepped!!!  The section of New Tibet of course shows how China saved the Tibetans from torture, starvation . . .   It shows as well how they have educated them, built schools and created opporutinities of self-sufficiency for all Tibetans.!!! This seems to be quite different then what I am seeing in the street.  I am seeing Tibetans who's only wish is to see the Dalai Lama return in their lifetime. (This is what I have been told by Tibetans themselves)  I also see that most shops, businesses, travel agencies!!!  are owned by chinese and the Tibetan working under them. I am seeing that the only way China can make sure that the Tibetan will not rise against the government is by having military on every corner of the street and roof tops with binoculars and having foreigners controlled through visiting permits . . .  It is prohibited to take photos of military so this way the "outside world" will not see or know exactly what is happening in Lhasa.  However,  money and profit speak loud and the Chinese goverment is allowing foreigners in and hopefully the tourists will share the truth with the outside world.

(One last note. I would like to know how it is that a guide for which I am paying 100$ US per day does not know that the museum is closed for renovations!!!!! and has been for awhile!!!)
