Monday, March 9, 2009

today we pitched up in napier - a charming little town on the east coast of the north island - it rained as we left wellington and rained pretty much the wohle way here but magically as we approached napier it cleared up and the sun came out.

Fortfied by a choice of clean clothes after competing with the argentine rugby team for the washing and drying machines in the hostel i was ready to head out and get some walking round done and some pictures taken

This is especially since the earthquake in the 1930's razed the town and it got rebuilt in art deco style - lots of nice buildings to take a gander at. So apologies if you don't like buildings cos thats what most of the pictures are of.

I found a maori carving shop by the way but its closed mondays so no joy there although theres an exhibition of maori artefacts in the local art gallery/museum, the only thing was they don't allow you to take pictures of it - shame, that they had some nice carvings -I also scored a few New Zealand hip hop cd's in a second hand store which i'll give a listen to when i get home

A bit torn tonight between doing a wine tasting as i'm in wine country or just having a couple of beers with dinner
anyway here come the photos - michelle you might be interested in one shop sign in particular
